Introduction

GLADSTONE PORT INSTALLS A MAKO.7 TIDAL TURBINE TO DEMONSTRATE RENEWABLE ENERGY FOR PORT INFRASTRUCTURE

A MAKO tidal turbine has been installed at the Barney Point terminal of Gladstone Ports Corporation as part of a six-month trial. This is the first demonstration of its kind in Australian tropical waters using port infrastructure.

“Through its partnership with MAKO, GPC has helped to unlock a new, predictable renewable energy option that can be embraced by other ports across Queensland.”

GPC CEO Peter O’Sullivan said the tidal energy demonstration is just one element in the Corporation’s renewable energy journey.

GPC have not only installed solar panels at its sites, but have also taken advantage of its port surrounds by partnering with MAKO to install cost-effective and reliable tidal turbines to contribute to improve their energy mix.
